give thanks, get gobblin'

Want to feel young again?  Go doorbell ditching.  You know you want to... and if you don't, I bet you know some kids who do.  Here my husband and I thought we were going to leave the deliveries to the kids as we supervised from the car.  Little did we anticipate that within minutes Greg and I would turn stealth-mode with our little accomplices as he became our getaway driver while we dropped, dashed and scampered into the car before they got the door.  Few things in life can match the thrill of racing away as you surprise your neighbors with an unexpected treat... all while they're left wondering who door bell ditched the sweet sentiment.   It's the perfect family home evening or FRIENDly activity.  Guaranteed to not only bring your family & friends closer but leaving your neighborhood feeling the love as well.  Happiness is contagious!  Start a fun tradition that will make someone's day and you'll find it made yours brighter along the way!
I caught the gobblin bug from a delivery made across the country to my sister in South Carolina who sent me a picture of what they received and told me how well it was received by their kids... then we got gobbled ourselves and it made my kids day!!!  I figured something like this was too fun not to keep going so I came up with these simple printables on Rhonna Farrar's app and used some of Over The Big Moon's ideas here to create them!
Deliveries can be as simple, decadent or as personal as you'd like them to be!  Depending on your what your budget or time allows, you can leave a baked goodie, friendly turkey hands, or just the printable note to make their day and let them know they're thought of!
The following image has been formatted and is ready to print on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of cardstock or paper.  Be sure to print off one extra per person that you'll be gobbling so they can have one to make a copy of so they can keep the greatful gobblin going!

Discalimer: if you do know us on a personal level and recieved something that looked like the aforephoto'd goodies... it is merely conincidental and we plead the fifth on making said deliveries.

I believe in Christ and I am a Mormon.

My seven year old daughter Haven came home last week and informed me that two of her best friends at school didn't want to be her friends anymore because they found out she was Mormon and according to their pastors and parents she wasn't a Christian.  Sadly, this couldn't be further from the truth as the very name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You can walk into any LDS church anywhere in the world at any time anyone is meeting there and you will NEVER hear another religion defamed.  We believe our time is best spent learning more about Christ's life and how we can pattern our own after it rather than to say negative things about others.

If you wanted an answer on something wouldn't you go to it's source?  Please don't take other's opinions of our beliefs as fact, as many times it is misrepresented.  I find it oxymoronic that there are many casting stones when we all emulate the same person and are simply striving to be better people.  There are enough atrocities dividing the world and our nation right now, at a time when I believe it is pivotal that we share a common ground.  So for the first time ever I'm going to let the world publicly know that I believe in Christ and I am a Mormon.

directions: press play, close your eyes, and listen.

I wish every single person I know could hear this song, and that I could tell each of you how amazing I think you are. No matter your circumstances, you are enough. You are more than your FB status, or your instagram posting habits, or the 59 selfies you took before you decided on one.  See that cell phone you're holding?  It's more of a mirror than any other piece of glass as it not only shows you what you look like but how you're perceived, and what others' outward opinions of you are.  Everything for better or for worse right there on that screen, and even when it's not an image of you on it... you're still there and visible ever so faintly in it's reflection.  A visual comparison of the real you compared to that photoshoped picture you're looking at.   You are more than that reflection of you because it is just that; it's mearly a reflection of you... it's not you.  Comparison is the theif of joy.  So stop comparing your "low" to someone's high point.  No picture, status or amount of followers, friends or likes can ever dictate your worth or how unique you are.   After the social media platforms we now use crumble like myspace, and that fancy mirror-like cell phone you're holding quickly becomes outdated, you'll realize the constant in our ever changing world is you.  You are always going to be you.  Amazing, talented, beautiful, you

Make It A Hoppy Easter

The printable is all formatted & ready to print!

I just added ribbon to the little scalloped boxes that came in a Martha Stewart package that I got a while back.  I bet Hobby Lobby or Michaels has similar things... though slid into a cellophane bag for support I'm sure cupcake liners would be just as cute!  Just hot glue some grograin ribbon on to make it look like a basket and handle.  My new paper shredder worked great for the white grass too since I couldn't find any anywhere.  I also got the white Cadury and Dove eggs at Target!  I hope this gives you some fresh ideas for your classes, teachers, or students this Easter Sunday!  xo

WEEE ARE THE CHAMPIONS thanks to MY FRIENDS!!!

Haven WON!!!  This has been an absolute blast hearing from so many of you and seeing us all join together to support our baby girl! It's been like a lifelong reunion and for that, win or lose, I must thank you, EACH of YOU for taking time out of your lives to show Haven some love! Sometimes "it takes a village" to make amazing things happen and this was no exception! We are so lucky to have you in our lives!
 feeling loved.
Here's the video of Haven that captured our hearts : http://youtu.be/PkStYoeuS5I

In keeping with the tradition of my name always being botched... this email was no exception.  Haa. 👍  It happens all. the. time.  Though after breaking the AMAZING news they pretty much could've called me whatever they wanted! 😂 Just kidding... sort of.
Words canNOT even describe how excited we are that Haven won this bedroom makeover from Destination Nursery and Mom's Best Network!  I've had several people say, "Sure.  Haven's YOUR daughter LIKE SHE EVEN NEEDS IT!" As they try to camouflage their annoyance under a chuckle.  Well let it suffice to say there's a reason no one besides close friends and family have ever seen a pic of her room or been in it. ;)  'Nuff said.  Being an interior designer I can't help but feel like Haven's room is the epitome of the expression "the cobbler's children have no shoes" because after living here for almost three years, her only semblance of decor in there was the bed, bedding, and curtains she inherited from her cousin Lexy's beautiful room.  On the brightside there's not a hole to be found on any of her walls! 😜 It will be the perfect blank canvas!  We couldn't possibly be more excited or appreciative to each of you who helped her dream come true!

I have NEVER blasted friends out like this to ask for help in voting for us to win something... probably because we've never won anything in our lives until this week!  Yay!  (This probably helps explain my love of hosting giveaways, as I figure if I don't win 'em at least I can help my friends get hooked up! ;)  HOLLA!!!  If nothing else this has been such a fun opportunity, as Haven's been ecstatic at the mere prospect of winning!  Thanks for sharing your love and time friends!  We appreciate and love each of you!

Seeing Isn't Believing

The outline of today's Sunday school lesson  in sharing time can be found here.
I began by choosing a reverent child and asked them to stand outside the door, supervised. ;)
With them out of sight I pulled out an apple and showed it to the rest of the kids.  I invited them to look at it, to touch it, and to even smell it to make sure that it was in fact a real apple.  I made sure that kids from all sides of the room got to make sure it was a real.  I then sealed it and put it away, just out of sight and invited the child back into the room.  The other children then told them what they saw.  The kids all echoed that "there was a real apple."  I played along and said "...but I don't see an apple, do you?"  The child then looked around for the apple to no avail.  I then asked those special witnesses from around the room who had touched it, to give them their word that there was in fact an apple, even though they didn't see it anymore.  Luckily he believed them.

I related this to our Savior Jesus Christ.  Though I personally have never seen him, I know that He lives.   Our very measurement of time bears witness to His existence.  News this week reported that more sea scrolls have been found... and what do you think they will say?  Do you think they will tell about their authors' own lives?  Probably not.  They didn't have Facebook to blast everyone they knew with the exciting news, or a microphone to shout it out to a dissipating audience.  They only knew of one way to ensure that their lasting words would not only be found by those who would be looking for it, but also that their words would withstand the test of time.   Often people wouldn't write about themselves, but of something much bigger and more far-reaching.  They would write their own testimonies of the miracles they witnessed, in hopes that the dry desert and their clay pots would help to preserve this message for generations to come.

Jesus atoned for everyone, why then would he only have appeared to a select few around Jerusalem after his death?  He didn't.  We know that He appeared to the people of the American Continent at that time because they too felt inspired to preserve their written testimony of it as well, though instead of papyrus they wrote them on metal plates.  It amazes me that even today with all the modern technology we have and scientific theories that try to disprove His existence... we are still discovering and uncovering others' promises that stand as their undeniable and dying word as though they are crying out from the dust that He lives!

As outlined in the lesson I then had some adult brothers and sisters portray people who knew Jesus and got to see him after His death in His resurrected state.  My friend Brandy spoke as though she was "Mary Magdalene" and summarize John 20:1-18 who was awestruck when she found Jesus' body was missing from the tomb only to turn around and see Him alive and well!  Then Thomas who summarized John 20:19-29 and how he was gone when the rest of the apostles had seen Jesus Christ and that he didn't believe that Jesus could have been alive despite the other's testimony of His existence.  Thomas earned his nickname by doubting Jesus' resurrection until just over a week later, when Jesus returned and Thomas saw Him in the flesh and literally felt His wounds in his hands, feet, and side.  I then unsealed the apple from it's hiding place and gave it to the child who hadn't gotten to see the apple, so that like Thomas, he could have a physical manifestation thus dispelling all doubt.

Another sweet friend read the account of those living on the other side of the Earth at that time.  The civilization who called themselves the Nephites, witnessed the same Earthly manifestations of Christ's death, identical to those as depicted in the Bible, and their physical witness of His visit to them on the American Continent.  I related that back to the apple and reminded them that physical witnesses of the apple weren't only on one side of the room but that people from all parts of the room got to experience it's validity for themselves.

My husband Greg was a sweetie and spoke though he was the young 14 year old boy who couldn't understand why there were so many different religions when there was only one God.  He then quoted James 1:5 "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." He then told how the young boy felt prompted to pray about his quandary and upon doing so, after much toil and tribulation that the adversary wrought upon him, he saw a pillar of light exactly over his head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until in it he beheld  two personages whose brightness "defy all description" and who called him by name.  He physically saw our Heavenly Father and elder brother Jesus Christ.  He heard His calm yet powerful voice say, "This is my beloved Son.  Hear him!"  Though taken back by the magnitude of this experience, Joseph Smith managed to formulate the question that had been the purpose of his supposition, and asked them which of all the churches was right.  He was told that he shouldn't join any of them, as all the churches at that time had semblances of truth but had fallen away from His correct principles.  Thus the restoration of Christ's true church began.

Lastly, I had the children close their eyes and imagine that a police officer had ran in and told them that there was a murderer just outside of the building and to wait there until it was safe.  Although a bit abrupt, I asked them if they would believe the police officer, as he had been given authority and stewardship to protect each of them and
keep them safe.  I related this to those who have been given similar responsibility over them (ie. parents, prophets, and teachers), who they too can believe and trust.  If people in Biblical times had a prophet to lead and guide them, would Heavenly Father leave us misguided in perilous times such as these?  Of course not.  I can say with assurity that I believe the words of our prophet and the inspired leaders of our church, as well as the infinite accounts of people throughout time who also bear witness of Christ's existence and resurrection.

As handouts, I made each of them an envelope, placed a jellybean inside, printed the following words on them, and sealed them individually.  I then said that although I can't see the jelly bean in its' entirety I can feel it, I can see the color of the jellybean when I hold it up to the light, how it has the ability to move it's surroundings (by shaping the paper that surrounds it), and I can even smell it's sweetness if I'm close enough to it.  Although its' a childlike metaphore it is a very fundamental summary of my testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  There have been times that I've wished that my soul's memory, like the envelope, wasn't sealed, so that I might remember the preexistence and the loving faces of our Heavenly Father, Mother, and our elder brother Jesus Christ.  Though I don't need to see them or Him to believe that He lives.  I have felt His sweet spirit.  I can see His light through others and I can feel His spirit move me when I hear a testimony of Him given, a beautiful melody or even when I just take the time to notice the "little" miracles I pass by daily.  Jesus Christ was born, He lived, He died, and was resurrected and it is in His name that I share this with gratitude and love.

pin board GAME PLAN

So... I was asked to decorate the pin board for our church's primary.  Yikes.  I guess there's a first time for everything right?  In fact I completely forgot that I needed to do this until I was walking down the isles of Michael's getting stuff for my daughter's poster board project for school a couple days ago, and realized two birds one store.  We got what we both needed there.  I'm all about as few stops as possible.

Just to be clear.  The following is the mission at hand: Decorate a decade old, thoroughly loved and used pin board.  That's on the wall.  In the hallway at church.  It should obviously be geared toward littles.  Littles whose hands are going to be tempted touch and POKE and pull. Poke being the operative word as ordinarily everything on a pin board should be held up with pins but the mere thought of kids around tacks and I get flashbacks of stepping on one.  That combined with the visual of Marv from Home Alone walking up the tar laden stairs only to have a nail sink into his vulnerable gangly foot.  Yowza.  Needless to say the pins were replaced by excessively large amounts of hot glue.  With kids you never can be too careful folks. Ha. I still give it a week before we have a mishap. Haaaa. And I wouldnt have it any other way.  I love curious little hands and minds.  At least this way I won't be afraid of any of my primary littles cutting themselves... as *fear not my motherly friends* there was no glass in the making of this mirrory vignette.

Here's what the package looked like at Michael's.  I would've taken more photos to put together a more legit tutorial but I didn't realize people would like it so much they'd want instructions.  I'm beyond flattered.  Albeit NOT so much that I'll beg to be the Ward's official pin boardista.  There are far more talented people than me in that department.  Our board was a tough act to follow!

I've had some people ask where I got the gold dots... my sister and I have a little vinyl business so I just cut my own and would be happy to do the same for you.  Just send me an email and I can get some to you!   UPDATE!  Target sells them for next to nothing near all their wall art on an end cap!  Check them out!  I'd love to see pics of how cute you make your bulletins look!  Thanks for all love and supportive comments friends!  Happy new year!
